Till October 2021,131 crore Aadhaar numbers have been issued to Indian residents.

A little insight on the background of Aadhar

‘’Unique makes you the only one is the central message of Aadhar. Aadhar in English means foundation or base and is a  groundbreaking initiative of the Indian Government. Aadhar identity platform is one of the key pillars of the Digital India program where every resident of the country is provided with a Unique Identity. The Aadhaar program has already achieved several milestones and is the world’s largest biometric-based identification system. It enables the Government of India to directly reach the Indian citizens for delivery of various subsidies, benefits, and services by using only the resident’s Aadhar number. It is a strategic policy tool for financial and social inclusion, public sector delivery reforms, increasing convenience, and promoting hassle-free people-centric governance.

The Aadhar Card update process can be done by two modes – The online portal or the Enrollment Center. Aadhaar details that can be updated are Demographic ( name, address, date of birth, gender, mobile number, email address, relationship status information sharing consent )and Biometric information ( iris, fingerprint, and facial photograph). The update process accepts a wide range of proof of identity (PoI) and proof of address (PoA) documents. While demographic information can be updated through any mode, updating biometric data is only possible through enrollment centers.
