How to Change Address in Aadhar Card

Aadhar card is a unique number issued to every citizen in India, a biometric document that stores the residence personal details, biometric and demographic information.

Benefits

It was not created with a specific use in mind but can be used for many purposes. It serves as a proof of identity, proof of address, proof of age and can be used for all government-related services and programs. It is linked with several government schemes like-  Aadhaar based Direct Benefit Transfer for LPG subsidy, Jan Dhan Yojana, passport in 10 days, Digital Locker, monthly pension, Digital Life Certificate, driving license, investment, and more.

A person may wish to change their address on their Aadhar card if they have moved to a new address or the address printed on the Aadhaar is incorrect. The address change process can be done in two modes- by visiting the Aadhar Enrollment Center or online, on the official website of UIDAI.

Online Method

To do it online, one can visit the UIDAI website, click on Proceed to Update Aadhaar, and enter Aadhaar number and captcha. On clicking the send OTP option, OTP is sent to the registered mobile number. Next, the person should select Update Demographic Data, select the options and proceed to the changes. The documents required are to be uploaded and the change request is submitted. The person is provided with an Update Request Number (URN) to track the status of an address change.

Aadhar Enrolment Center

By visiting an Aadhar Enrolment Center, one must fill the Correction Form by requesting one at the nearest Aadhaar enrolment center on the UIDAI website.  After attaching the relevant documents, the application form has to be submitted at the center and a minimal fee has to be paid. The person will receive an acknowledgment slip with URN to track the update request.

There are no charges for address change online. However, a minimal fee is charged at the Aadhaar Enrolment Center. A new facility has been launched by UIDAI where addresses can be updated without providing address proof. The Request for Aadhar Validation Letter is required.

The resident must log in by providing their Aadhaar details and enter the Verifier Aadhaar details, after which an SRN is sent to the Verifier. The verifier has to click on the link sent to the registered mobile number, log in with the Aadhar details, and provide consent.

Verifier consent is sent to the registered mobile number. After logging in by providing SRN, the person should review the address details, change the language if needed and submit the request. Next, the person will receive a post with the letter and Secret Code. He or she must log in to the address update portal and change the address with the help of the secret code. After submitting the form, a URN is provided to check the status of the request.
