In the meantime, due to the lockdown, the Uttar Pradesh government has remitted Rs 611 crore to the bank accounts of 27.5 lakh NREGA workers.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath Ji tweeted from his official Twitter account said the Uttar Pradesh government is providing enormous relief to underprivileged labourers who are battling for necessities due to the coronavirus.

Under MNREGA, the CM today remitted Rs 611 crore straight to the bank accounts of the state’s 27.5 lakh workers. In addition, at the planning meeting, CM Yogi spoke with these individuals and provided information on the scheme.

From Lucknow, the CM sent money to the accounts of all 27.5 lakh MNREGA workers with a single click. At the same time, he stated that under the Garib Kalyan Yojana, the state and federal governments will jointly launch several programmes for poor families, labourers, farmers, and others in need.

What further actions did the state government take?

The state administration had already issued orders a few days ago to award daily wage labourers 1000-1000 rupees. The government has also confirmed that a sum of 1000-1000 rupees has been deposited in the accounts of daily wage workers across the state.

The state government has also urged inhabitants to remain at home while assuring them that the government will completely assist those in need.

What was the government’s response to the lockdown?
