While it was looked like a pipedream for the poor in the country, it is now a possibility due to the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises India – a department that works towards helping small scale businesses to grow. In order to further assist small scale entrepreneurs, the Ministry launched the Udyog Aadhaar facility.

What is the Udyog Aadhaar registration?

With over 95% of the industrial establishments in the country, the Small and Medium-sized Enterprises, SME, sector is the base foundation of India’s economic growth. About 45% of the total Indian manufacturing output comes from this sector. In order to encourage this industry, even more, the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises India along with the Government of India implemented the Udyog Aadhaar facility.

Basically, the Udyog Aadhaar is an identification system that is similar to Aadhaar but designed specifically for Businesses. As an MSME/SME, you can enjoy special Udyog Aadhaar is beneficial for promoting the growth and development of the businesses that are registered.

Eligibility criteria for Udyog Aadhaar

The business entities interested in registering for the Udyog Aadhaar facility are classified on the basis of their investment in plants and machinery.

1. Micro-Enterprise

Turnover threshold: up to Rs. 5 crore

Investment Threshold: up to Rs. 1 crore

2. Small Enterprise

Turnover threshold: between Rs. 5 crore and Rs. 50 crore

Investment threshold: between Rs. 1 crore and Rs. 10 crore

3. Medium enterprise

Turnover threshold: between Rs. 50 crore and Rs. 100 crore

Investment threshold: between Rs. 10 crore and Rs. 20 crore

Registration for the Udyog Aadhaar

• Log in to the official website – Udyog Aadhaar
• Enter your Aadhaar number, name and other necessary details
• Check the box and then click on the “Validate and generate OTP”
• On successful verification, the candidate will be directed to a form
• Fill in the appropriate fields, like the name of the enterprise, type of organisation, etc. The candidate has to pay careful attention while filling the “National Industry Classification code” and “Major activity”
• Upon completion, the candidate has to recheck data to ensure there are no errors
• Scroll to the bottom and click on “submit”
• An OTP will be sent to the registered mobile number
• Enter the OTP  and click on Final submit to complete the application process.

While registering for a new Udyog Aadhaar, you will have to resent the following documents:

2. Personal Aadhaar number
3. Name of business
4. Category of applicant
5. Type of organisation
6. Bank details
7. Key activity
8. National Industrial Classification code

10. Details of District Industry Centre
11. Date of commencement
