What is OLabs?

The OLabs include experiments in Physical, Chemical, and Biological sciences for students in grades 9 through 12, with a curriculum related to the NCERT/CBSE and State Board Syllabus. The OLabs are available at www.olabs.edu.in. After registering, schools have free access to OLabs.

The OLabs concept is founded on the assumption that lab experiments may be taught more rapidly and affordably via the Internet. The labs can also be made available to students who do not have access to physical labs or when equipment is scarce or expensive. This allows them to compete with pupils from better-equipped schools while also bridging the digital divide and geographical boundaries. The experiments may be accessed at any time and from any location, overcoming the time limits encountered while only having access to the actual lab for a brief period of time.

Syllabus and subjects covered

The labs on the OLabs learning platform are curriculum-aligned to NCERT/CBSE and State Board Syllabus. Students from the ICSE and State boards, on the other hand, will gain because the themes covered are comparable throughout the boards.

Process to begin learning with OLabs

• A learner can begin with the Theory, which provides an overview of the experiment.
• The Procedure provides extensive step-by-step directions for carrying out the experiment in a regular lab as well as with the simulator.
• The Animations assist a student in understanding how to do the experiment by providing clues, tool recommendations, and so on that demonstrate measurements, equipment operation, and other pertinent information.
• The Video tab displays a video of the experiment as it would be performed in a regular lab.
• The Simulation can be used to run the experiment in real-time. The experiment can be carried out by selecting the Simulation tab and then following the step-by-step directions in the ‘Procedure’ tab.
• The Viva Voce module allows for self-evaluation. This keeps track of what a student understands and has studied about a certain topic. It can be utilised prior to, during, and after the experiment. The data collected by this module is saved for subsequent study.
• The Resources page contains a list of books, films, and connections to websites that support the specific experiment content provided on the OLabs website. There is also information on extra reading materials.
