Aadhar number is a 12 digit random number issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) to Indian residents after they satisfy the verification process laid down by the authority. Any individual irrespective of age and gender, who is an Indian resident may voluntarily enroll to obtain this Aadhar number by providing minimal demographic and biometric information. The types of proofs required as documentary evidence to submit an Aadhar Card correction or update request are- Proof of Identity, Proof of Address, Proof of Relationship, and Proof of Birth.
Documents can be submitted as Identity Proof – passport, PAN card, ration card, voter ID card, driving license of the applicant, photo ID cards issued by the Indian Government, service photo ID card issued by a PSU, the license of arms, photo Bank ATM card, photo Credit Card, photo card of Pensioner, photo card of Freedom Fighter, photo passbook of Kisan, certificate of marriage, legally approved name change certificate, residing address card of the applicant that contains both name and photo that was originally issued by the Department of Posts, either a handicapped medical certificate or a disability identification card issued by the State Government, Union Territory government or any such administration, Identity Certificate containing a photo of the applicant on a proper letterhead issued either by gazetted officer or Tehsildar.
Address proof is one of the most important documents to be submitted. The person must be careful to send these documents because an Aadhar Card after the update, is sent to this address and if he or she fails to present the correct address proof, they may not receive the Aadhar card.
Some of the 45 documents accepted by UIDAI as Address Proof are passport, ration card, voter ID card, driving license, previous three months electricity bill, previous three months landline bill related to telephone, insurance policy last 3 months, credit card statement, job card of NREGA, passbook or bank statement, account statement or passbook of the post office, arms license, pension card, Freedom Fighter card, Kisan passbook, photo and address card by Department of Posts, spouses’ or partners’ passport, assessment order of Income Tax, Registration Certificate of vehicle, signed letter with address and photo on letterhead of company issued by the registered office, caste and domicile certificate along with a photo that state government has issued, registered agreement for sale, lease or rent of applicant’s residential address.
For minor residents, a parent’s passport is required.
Proof of birth documents applicable is passport, birth certificate, PAN card, mark sheet issued by Government board or university, pension payment order, date of the birth certificate on their letterhead issued by either Tehsildar or a gazetted officer, government photo ID card or photo identity proof or PSU issued ID card which contains the date of birth, etc.
The documents required for ascertaining an applicant’s relationship with the family’s head as Proof of Relationship are- Pension card, Passport, Medical Card issued by State Government, MGNREGA job card, PDS card, Registrar of Birth / Municipal Corporation or any local government Birth Certificate, any family entitlement document issued by any Central or State Government, etc.
